Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

A classic American buttercream that is creamy, sweet, and perfect for piping onto cupcakes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 4 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

    Beat the softened butter on medium-high speed for about 3-4 minutes until pale and fluffy.

    Reduce the speed to low and gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

    Add the vanilla, salt, and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. Beat on medium-high for another 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy. If the frosting is too thick, add a bit more cream. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
